i'm trying!

you know how the more kids you have the less and less pictures you take, keepsakes you actually keep and the baby book has very little info in it if any...well i know EVERY mom does her best to keep up with our growing little ones. of my 5 the 1st, and 3rd have a finished 1st year album, the 2nd and 4th have a 1st year album that stopped at 9 months (and i will fill in the last 3 months sometime) and my 5th little one does not have an album. yet. but i have tried to continue with taking pictures every month.you know the first few i was picking out backdrops and coming up with fun and creative ways to photograph them each month, at least i thought they were fun and creative, lol. anyways i have done pretty good with nessa, my 5th. i think i missed one month, but i feel like i havent been trying as hard to come up with fun new things and ways to capture her. so for her 10 month pictures, i had a stroke of madness at midnight saturday, amongst the getting clothes out for all the kids for church in the am, and all that. i grabbed an outfit for nessa that was one of my baby outfits, and it hit me she will be 10 months in the morning. so i looked at the strawberry and yellow/green outfit in my hands and "ding". i grabbed anything i had in the house that had green yellow and strawberries that i thought would be cute as a styled shoot. luckily i have a little milk glass collection so i used some one which is a strawberry plate, i have a vintage red suitcase and some other fun things like my baby books that are strawberry shortcake and a doll. so sunday after church i set it all up and with my moms help to corral nessa who wanted to eat the dirt and sticks, crawl around and grab everything i had set up, i took her 10 month pictures. here's to trying to keep up!

blah to cUte!

so i love going to thrift stores! i get such a thrill searching through all the stuff others toss out. it's awesome to find stuff that is great and all i need to do is wash it /clean it, like my milk glass collection. and it's equally awesome to find stuff that could be great given a little imagination, spray paint, and craftiness!

this project i found at the kimberly home thrift store for 99 cents...as soon as i saw it i knew what i wanted to do with it!

this is the blah aka before...

and this is the cUte aka after...
with some spray paint and heidi swapp's new sugar chic line! and some pearls

vintage love stories shower

you may have seen this shower featured on the amy atlas blog!

so I'm going to tell you some more of the details and diy's!!!
this shower was very easy to create, it just took some time, a lot of of hot glue and old books!

the 1st picture is a little table from daughters room, some more heart garland on it, a big candy jar with a stamped "honeymoon fund" sign on it and the bride and grooms initials. buy the letters at local craft store, i painted them gray with acylic paint but you could also spray paint them. then add some yarn and lace and a few book page flowers and tada!

the honeymoon fund jar went with the kisses $1.00 banner. when ever a guest put a $1.oo in the jar the bride and groom had to kiss! fun for everyone and the couple got some cash for their honeymoon!

the 2nd picture mason jars with votives in them, and the little ones are the set of 4 glass jars from ikea with the lids off and lace around the outside. book paper flowers which are time consuming, but cute, and there are a million tutorials on the internet for them., i used a 2 inch circle punch, punched out a lot of circles and then used glossy accents and glued the circles around each other until i liked the flower.

the 3rd picture is the milk and cookie bar, which was a HUGE hit and quite yummy! we used a yellow twin size blanket for the table cloth...i always try to remember that the stuff in my house isn't just what i normally use it for, or what it was made for!
then we hung empty vintage frames from thrift stores and my house. i made some book paper heart garland we also hung on the frames. i just cut out a TON of hearts and fed them through my sewing machine, super simple.
the cookies were in some old crates lined with wax paper and old wicker shelf that i spray painted, and some apple baskets on their sides.

the 4th picture is an old broken closet door i rescued from the trash, all i did was clean it, spray paint it and then put some fabric behind the portion of the door that the slats were broken off. ideally if i had more time i would have put a chalkboard there instead of fabric, but i ran out of time. we put it in the room upside down so we could put the envelopes for thank you cards hanging on it. the top was a little icky looking so i just folded over some doilies on top and hung a strand of book paper hearts on it.

the 5th picture is the dictionary paper backdrop. this was so cute hanging up. first get an old dictionary, i scored mine at a vintage book store on a sale cart of 2.00! and i still have over half the dictionary left for more projects. I'm sure you can get one for just as cheap at a thrift store!
the backdrop is an old queen sheet i had laying around the house, tear out and hot glue the dictionary pages in no particular way, just randomly on the sheet and try not to burn yourself. we hung it on a backdrop stand by punching holes in it with a hole punch and tied it on with ribbon so it it would be tight across the top.

the banner is card stock cut into banner shapes, a dictionary page glued on top, and the letters were just printed and cut out and also glued on, and then hole punched and strung up.

the 6th picture is way easy, get a pack of doilies, roll up glue or tape and fill with popcorn, or candy or anything you can think of.

the 7th picture is the book page table runner. we also used the dictionary for these.we ripped out pages, i put them down on the ground how we wanted it to look on the table and one of the other bridesmaids followed me with the glue gun gluing where the pages overlapped, picked it up and set it on the tables.
(we also made sure we didn't have any inappropriate words showing, lol)

we did the book page runner on every other table, the ones with out had a burlap runner, and underneath both were just plain white table linens.

the 8th picture is the love quote plaques. we had one on every other table, with a different quote. we bought wood plaques at our local craft store, for a couple bucks each. again i used the dictionary pages, a mixture of mod podge and water dipped the torn pages in it and stuck them to the plaques and molded it to form to the plaque shape. printed a quote, cut it out and glued it onto the plaque. done.
